Sheet metal finishing involves processes being carried out to improve the appearance, durability and functionality of sheet metal parts.
Sheet Metal Finishing Techniques
Polishing
Polishing is carried out in-house by a team of experienced staff, using hand held equipment and fixed pedestal machines. Graining is another form of polishing and is carried out using a Grinding Master 2000 or our Time Saver 32 linisher.
Powder Coating
This is an electrostatic process that involves paint in powder form being deposited on the surface of the item being manufactured. This item is then passed through an oven to melt the powder and produce the desired coverage.
Degreasing and pre-treatments are carried out prior to the powder coating process in order to achieve maximum adhesion of the powder on the item’s surface. There are numerous surface finishes available to achieve the desired appearance. Some of these are:
- Smooth gloss
- Matt
- Satin
- Textured surfaces i.e., leatherette
Plating
This process involves metal being deposited onto the surface of the item being manufactured. Plating serves several purposes, we have listed a few below:
- Aesthetic appearance, such as polished chrome, nickel plating, coloured anodizing
- Protection against corrosion, such as galvanising and zinc plating
- Increase surface resilience for materials, such as hard anodizing
FSM Machines
We have the Time Saver 32 at our facility and it is capable of edge breaking and sharp edge removal in all directions as well as straight grain linishing. This machine, along with the Grinding Master 2000, has an 1100mm wide belt/component capacity and a variety of belt densities ranging from course 60 grit, to fine 240 grit. When necessary, we can also grain by hand using a range of manual equipment such as a PTX rotary abrasive mop.
Our trustworthy partnerships and the variety of techniques at our disposal ensures that every project is completed to the highest standard and to their individual requirements.
Our Partnerships
We take pride in maintaining a good relationship with our trusted partners in order to provide our clients with processes that we do not carry out in-house. These include powder coating, specialist polishing, blasting, anodizing and various plating processes.
