Choosing a sheet metal subcontractor is a decision that requires a lot of considerations. From the equipment/facilities at the company’s disposal to the accreditations it has, as well as previous case studies demonstrating their sheet metal manufacturing abilities.
In this article, we will be covering how FSM fulfil these criteria making them a trustworthy and dependable sheet metal subcontracting partner for your company.
Our Capabilities
We have a range of capabilities that help us cater to the demands of a rapidly growing industrial market. Below is a list of some of the subcontracting facilities that we offer:
- Designing & Prototyping
- Laser Cutting
- Punching
- Shearing & Notching
- Forming & bending
- Welding
- Linishing & Finishing
Some of these processes such as welding require very specialist knowledge that might not always be available within an existing workforce. This is where subcontracting comes into its own as it saves the client from having to hire or train more people with the relevant skills required for the job. It can simply be left to the professionals with years of experience under their belt.
Types of work we have completed as sheet metal subcontractors
We have undertaken a variety of projects as subcontractors, ranging from complex to straightforward. Below are a few examples of the work that we have carried out as expert subcontractors
Drain grilles
The specification that we were given was that the grille had to be constructed from stainless steel with a thickness of 5mm.
We used our laser cutting machine and as a result were able to overcome cost and tooling hurdles that the customer would have otherwise had to face if this product was manufactured using alternative traditional processes such as casting, milling, plastic moulding or pressings.
Benches for Paris Art Exhibition
FSM were engaged as subcontractors for this project due to the complexity of the design of aluminium benches for an art exhibition in Paris.
Our expertise in sheet metal fabrication combined with close communication with Alexandra Gerber – designer in charge of adapting Alice Gavin’s original concept – meant we were able to deliver a final product that the client was happy with. You can read more about this project here.
Motor Sports
Pro Alloy Motorsport Ltd is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of specialist alloy automotive and motorsport components. Based in Haverhill, we struck up a relationship with Pro Alloy several years ago helping them take their designs from concept into production. Working from sketches, cardboard mock-ups, models, occasionally drawings or one of their designers looking over the shoulder of our design team, we have helped to take their ideas and turn them into practical reality. FSM laser cut and form these items for Pro Alloy to weld and finish off.
Our Facilities
Taking on the role of a subcontractor means delivering high-quality results to specification and on time in a cost-effective manner. To help us fulfil these criteria we have a highly skilled and motivated workforce with cutting-edge facilities at their disposal such as Solid Edge CAD software, Fibre laser cutting technology and Trumpf 5130 Press Brakes to name just a few.
Our production planning and work centres are supported by “Progress Plus” sales and operational software managed by an experienced and proficient team.
