FSM has a long and established history in the sheet metal fabrication sector. From our humble beginnings as Felten Sheet Metal Ltd we have been through a lot of challenges, triumphs and milestones emerging stronger every time. www.fsm.co.uk | 9 Our journey begins in Haverhill, Suffolk, and with our founder John Fellows. Then, we were a small general fabrication and sheet metal workshop with only four employees, catering to local businesses. In the early 1980s, we started to take on projects for the access control sector. Today, we manufacture, supply and install components for access control products to the private and public sector across the UK. At the end of the decade, we began to make our natural progression from access control products to manufacturing and installing steel security doors, gates and railings. Throughout the 1990s, we gradually improved both our manufacturing equipment and our software to stand tall in a competitive market. This included the introduction of our first laser cutting machine, our first computerised production control system, and 3D CAD modelling software. Since then, we have continued to upgrade our equipment and our software regularly. The mid-2000s saw our first rebrand as we changed our name to FSM Manufacturing, a name which has remained with us to this very day. To improve efficiency, reduce waste, and deliver higherquality products to our customers, we adopted a more strategic approach to our processes, implementing stricter lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles. The refresh of our brand saw us change our logo and introduce new company colours to reflect the changing nature of our business. We celebrated our fortieth year of sustainable growth, paving the way forward for us and our clients. Utilising 1.5mm 304 stainless steel, we delivered precise laser-cut parts and welding to ensure structural integrity, while a bead blast finish enhanced aesthetics. This solution met the client’s needs for accuracy, durability, and hygiene in a high-throughput environment. Rack Shelf for Electrical Cabinets We were asked by a manufacturer to create adjustable rack shelves for their electrical cabinets. Using 1.5mm mild steel, we employed laser cutting, forming, and powder coating to deliver lightweight yet strong shelves in various widths.
